For those who believed that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had turned a corner and left behind his RINO credentials to help President Donald Trump do good things for America while protecting our constitutional liberties, it is time to think again.
It looks as though it may all have been an act.
Following a pair of mass shootings earlier this month on the same day — one in El Paso, Texas, and the other in Dayton, Ohio — Graham has been front and center pushing new federal legislation that would reward states financially if they pass a new “red flag” law.
These are statutes that allow state and local courts to empower police so they can confiscate personally-owned firearms from anyone deemed “a threat” to either themselves or others.
The process is wholly unconstitutional in that it allows the seizure of private property — guns — without a trial and without the person ever having actually committed a crime, let alone be convicted of one.
And, of course, these laws severely infringe upon the right to keep and bear arms, so they violate the Second Amendment as well as the Fourth and Fifth.
As for Graham, he is championing these new laws even though there is no evidence that they work. What’s more, he claims that POTUS Donald Trump is on-board with them.
“The president is more determined than ever to get something done that makes sense. We’re not going to take people’s guns away,” he said Sunday during an appearance with Fox Business Network hostess Maria Bartiromo.
“We want to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people who are hateful or mentally ill. The red flag legislation grants the states that have these red flag laws, the president is focused on that. Working with Senator [Joe] Manchin (D-W.Va.) we can perhaps enhance background checks.“ he continued.
“The guy in Philadelphia had been convicted 6 or 8 times. How the hell did he get a gun to begin with? The guy in El Paso was on one of these white supremacist hate sites where they radicalize each other. We should shut those sites down,” he continued. “The guy in Dayton was kicked out of school because he had a rape list, a kill list. He was clearly violent. Why did that guy get a gun to begin with?” (Related: Instead of red flag laws, why won’t lawmakers investigate psychiatric drugs and their links to violence?)
Graham would use the power of government like tyrannical Democrats would: Taking away due process and constitutional rights in pursuit of some elusive goal of “safety.” But none of what he’s proposing would have stopped a single mass shooting that he cited.
Not one.
We already have laws on the books denying guns to convicted felons (but the Philly guy got one anyway). We already have laws against murder (and yet all these shooters broke right through that one). The ‘rape list’ kid in Dayton was 24 years old, so raising the rifle-buying age to 21 would not have helped. And “hate sites?” Thanks, Graham; every conservative website on the Internet would be deemed “a hate site” by Left-wing Democrats if they ever get back full control of the government.
Graham has been all talk for months now, since taking over as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Remember when, last fall, he was loudly proclaiming he would be launching probe after probe to ‘get to the bottom’ of the Spygate coup attempt against President Trump?
Where are Graham’s hearings? How many witnesses has he subpoenaed? How many answers has he gotten? What has he ‘gotten to the bottom of?’
Graham has been a RINO for years and despite the fact that it looked as though he had turned a corner to support this very conservative, very constitutional president, it was all a mirage.
To blazes with Lindsey Graham. We don’t need more “gun control.” We need more “lawmaker control.”
